Bark Charity Shop

BARK Charity Shop is here to help support Berwick Animal Rescue Kennels (BARK). We accept donated goods and sell them here in our charity gift shop. All sales contribute to the upkeep of our kennels and their continuing work rescuing and rehoming animals in need. We have a range of products which include everything from clothing, books, toys, games, furniture, collectables and many more. Your purchase ensures better care for animals during the re-homing process and increases animal welfare on the whole.

BARK is a registered charity (Number 1083038 in England and Wales, and SC038235 in Scotland) and is active and growing. BARK provides temporary refuge for unwanted and domesticated stray animals. Wherever possible it is our objective to ensure each animal’s health and safety, and to eventually re-home them. Our area of operation is north and south of the Scotland-England border. Although we will take animals in from all areas, in reality, this generally means within about 60 miles of the kennels. However, we have previously had animals in from as far north as Aberdeen and as far south as London.  That being said, our rehoming area must remain closer to the kennels area around Berwick.  Please check our kennels web page for up to date details of the areas we are currently able to rehome animals to.

Animal Welfare in the UK

Statistics courtesy of PFMA (Pet Population 2020)

According to the Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association of the UK, there are over 16.5 million cats and dog in the UK.

Unfortunately, not all of them are in good homes. PETA UK estimates as many as 100 thousand dogs wander our streets and fields every night—that doesn’t even include the cats! PETA also asserts than many of these animals are mutilated, poisoned, shot, or even worse every day. This is simply unacceptable.

Because there are so many strays reported throughout the UK, many end up being euthanized—around 21 dogs every day. The procedure is quick and largely painless; nonetheless, this fact is heartbreaking. It is with this in mind that we at BARK and BARK Charity Shop endeavor to save the lives of as many precious animals as is possible. We cannot do it without your help.

COVID-19 PROTOCOL UPDATE

Due to the Corona virus and its required protocol, we are operating under restricted hours. Current staff shortages require Bark Charity Shop to close for onsite trading and donations. We hope to accept donations again in February.

Unfortunately due to further Government restrictions we are required to suspend our Click and Collect service for the forseeable future. We can still deliver by Royal Mail or Hermes from our online site. We are available Monday to Friday 10-12 if you need to contact us by phone. The shop number is 01289 309925.
